What waves and love have in common

This is the first vacation at the seaside, I’ve had for about a decade. Long beaches of white sand. Deep blue sky. One wave after the other rolling in.

In the meantime, I visited many cities and hiked a lot. I discovered many types of beautiful landscapes. Moments I wouldn’t want to give away anymore.

Also, I felt like my time was too precious to spend it lying at the beach doing nothing. Something inside pushed me to always move to the next thing. Never stop to take a breath. I ran away like I was haunted not knowing why.

Now I am back and when the feeling rushed in silent tears found their way down my cheeks.

So often, you only notice what you have been missing once you have it back or once you experience it. Suddenly you remember how it was in the past, how much you enjoyed it, and question why you forgot about it on the way.

I had a similar experience during my postgrad degree. Covid-19 was hitting the UK hard that winter and heavy restrictions were in place. I didn’t talk to anyone face-to-face from November until April except the cashier when I bought groceries.

A long time, especially since wintertime is dark and uncomfortable.
